Are you studying to become a subject teacher or enrolled in a natural sciences bachelor's or master's program and looking for a rewarding part-time job? As an assistant at the Discovery Club, you will gain practical work experience in your field of study while building contacts and developing your professional network.

The Discovery Club is aimed at curious young students in grades 4 and 5 and operates as an extracurricular activity. The activities are based on scientific and technical subjects. The purpose of the program is to create an extracurricular activity that allows children to cultivate their curiosity and interest in science and technology. The focus is to create interest and encourage children to conduct their own investigations. We meet every other week (Wednesdays 15:00-18:30, eight times per term).

We are now looking for 3 assistants to start in February.

Job Responsibilities

You will assist the club leader in maintaining order in the classroom, taking attendance, distributing materials, proactively instructing and ensuring everyone is following along, planning lessons, and photographing for social media. You will also test, prepare, and lead experimental demonstrations with the children, sometimes for the whole group and sometimes in smaller groups. Additionally, you will hold shorter lectures in the form of a “question box” or, if interested, introduce the day's lesson to the entire class.

Qualifications

To be employed as an assistant, you must:

  • be enrolled in ongoing full-time studies at the university level
  • have completed approved studies corresponding to at least 60 higher education credits

For this position, you should also be studying one of the following:

  • a natural science teacher program at the University of Gothenburg
  • a degree program in biology & molecular biology, pharmacy, physics, earth sciences & geography, IT, chemistry, cultural heritage, marine science, mathematics, or environmental science at the University of Gothenburg.

Previous experience is an advantage. We also appreciate if you have experience in teaching science to students in the relevant age group and possess good didactic skills. As a person, you are proactive, collaborative, and organized. You should speak Swedish at least at level B2. A criminal record extract must be presented before employment begins.

Employment

The position is an intermittent employment covering a maximum of 30 hours per term, based at the Faculty Office for Natural Sciences and Engineering. The employment lasts until May 2026. Start date in February, as agreed.
